DAVID STANLEY - Raised
on Rock!
Author - Film Maker -
Speaker
David E.
Stanley was born in Newport News, Virginia in 1955 to Bill and Dee
Stanley. Three years
later his parents divorced, setting the stage for an extraordinary
event. In 1960, Dee
Stanley married Vernon Presley, Elvis Presley’s widowed
father. David Stanley
was just four years old, 20 years younger than his new
stepbrother, when he moved into the Graceland Mansion. Without a choice, Elvis
Presley had become David’s big
brother.
Spending
the next 17 years as a member of Rock & Roll’s first family,
David was an integral part of Elvis’s personal and professional
life. At 16, he began
touring with Elvis as a full-time personal aide and
bodyguard. With
unlimited access to money, power and prestige, David consumed a
lifestyle filled with drugs and self-destruction. He endured the stress of
watching Elvis develop his own self-destructive vices and was
among the first to discover Elvis’s lifeless body on August 16,
1977.
Deeply
affected by the aftershocks of his stepbrother’s death and left
with nothing but great memories, a substance abuse problem and a
ninth grade education, David knew he had to set his life on a new
course. He overcame
the obstacles and addictions of the past by eliminating the
negative by-products of the Elvis years. He received his GED and
went to college and attained his degree in
communications.
David
Stanley developed new priorities centered around educating,
motivating, inspiring and helping others. He began his speaking
career in 1982, traveling throughout North America and Europe
sharing his powerful story of turning adversity into personal
achievement.
Today, David Stanley is a successful writer
and a highly sought-after inspirational and motivational speaker
and creator of SOLUTIONARY
DYNAMICS. A truly gifted
communicator, David’s signature keynote address, FROM THE SHADOWS OF THE KING,
has literally impacted millions around the world through a variety
of communication mediums.
He effectively uses his celebrity status, personal
experiences and unique programs to motivate and empower audiences
