Marshawn Evans Biography
Marshawn Evans is the President and CEO
of Communication Counts, the Atlanta-based consulting firm that
has consulted with politicians, athletes, entertainers, and media
personalities. Marshawn is one of the most sought after
young consultants in the United States because of her creative
insight in the field of Human Potential. Her professionally
developed leadership programs have changed lives around the
country and continues to stir emotional leadership skills within
those who implement her principles. Marshawn has founded
many non-profit organizations as well as those for-profit
endeavors that have answered the call to summon the leadership and
performance attributes of individuals in all age
groups.
As Miss District of Columbia, she
finished 3rd runner-up winning the talent and interview at the
Miss America Competition in 2001. She is a national
spokesperson on youth crime prevention and leadership development,
and worked with the U.S. Justice Department as a co-founder of the
National Youth Network. In 1996, she founded America CAN!, a
comprehensive non-profit youth leadership initiative. As a
professional consultant, public speaker and activist, she has
addressed over 400 audiences at conferences, seminars,
universities, and events around the country on leadership,
communication, self-image, and her ongoing platform "United
Against Crime: Investing in Youth for a Safer Future."
Once underestimated and labeled a
"problem child," Marshawn believes in providing youth with the
skills and motivation they need to succeed. She encourages
young people to make positive choices regarding education, peers,
drugs, and alcohol. She states that, "ALL children can learn
and that ALL children can succeed! It's up to America to
make sure that happens."
Because of her passion for youth,
Marshawn was given the "Strengthening the Voice of Youth Across
America Award" by the U.S. Justice Department, and the Miss
America National Community Service Award. Then-Governer
George W. Bush appointed her to the Texas Juvenile Justice
Advisory Board at the age of 19, and she was later named the
National Juvenile Justice Advisory Council in Washington,
DC.
Marshawn gratuated magna cum laude from
Texas Christian University with honors and distinction, and was
named a Harry S. Truman Scholar. She is also a USA Today's
All-Academic First Team member, an ambassador to the International
Summit of Achievement in Dublin, Ireland, and one of Glamour
Magazine's "Top Ten College Women."
Marshawn then received her Juris Doctor
from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as a
criminal defense attorney in the Juvenile Justice Clinic and as a
litigator on Georgetown's world-recognized International
Commercial Arbitration Team competing in Vienna, Austria.
Marshawn was born and raised in Dallas, TX, and now currently
resides in Atlanta, GA where she is a litigator with a top Atlanta
law firm.
